Frame Sizes (Viewable Area)

Digital photo frames are available in many sizes. From the keychain type which measures 1.5 inches to 24 inch wide screen frames that hang on the wall.

The most commonly purchased size is the 8 or 10 inch frame. Large format frames range in sizes from 19, to 32 inches.

The cheapest ones of course are the smallest which may cost as little as $10 the big ones sell from $100++ to $1000++. Like monitors the screen size is measured in inches diagonally from corner to corner. Clarify if the size does not include the surrounding frame, some brands, however do qualify the specs by citing view size instead of frame size.

Resolution

Resolution is measured by the number of pixels in the screen. The higher the resolution, the sharper the image will be.

A good resolution for a 8" frame is ???? pixels, for a 10" screen is ???, for keychain frames 128px by 128px. Many of the less expensive frames will have a larger viewable area but with a lower resolution.

Memory

If your digital photo frame has a built-in memory, it simply means that you can copy photos directly from your pc or digital camera to the frame.

If it’s not a feature that’s included you will need to leave your memory card inserted in the photo frame to view the pictures. Be sure to check the list of memory cards that will be compatible with the frame.

Audio

Other added features to photo frames are a follows. If the one you purchased is MP3 compatible, it means that you can add background music to your slideshow. Be sure to check if the speakers are mono or stereo. If it’s just mono and there’s a big difference in the price of one that is not MP3 compatible then just buy the standard one. Mono speakers don’t sound good at all.

Wi-Fi or Wireless

If you purchased one that is wireless or Wi-Fi capable, this means you can connect to a wireless network making it possible for you to download pictures directly to your frame from your pc and via the internet. If it has Bluetooth you can download pictures from a Bluetooth compatible cellular phone or a palm top computer. A TV Out feature as the name implies allows you to display your photos on your television screen. If it has a UbiSync USB mini PC monitor it means you can use it as a second PC monitor with a simple USB connection.
